Dealing with Diabetes

by Mario

My diabetes is under control

My diabetes is under control

I have been suffering from diabetes for the last four years, however this has not changed my normal life. I feel this disease came to me as a blessing in disguise, this is because I used to eat lot of junk foods and sweets before being diagnosed.

However now I maintain a moderate diet which has helped me bring my diabetes under control. I begin my day at 5.30 in the morning. I do few yoga exercises which are specific to diabetes. I swim four days a week and the rest of the days I go for a brisk walk.

I only have oats and low sugar muesli for breakfast with a cup of coffee. Working in a software company, there is not much of physical work to do, so I take a ten minute break every two hours and go for a walk or play table tennis.

By Mid-morning, I usually have a cup of coffee. I eat something like two pieces of wholemeal bread and a cup of basmati rice and lentils during lunch and two low calorie biscuits and tea in the afternoons.

I tend to have sprouts and fruits for dinner and avoid mango and bananas as they are sugar and calorie dense, and have apples instead. I finish my dinner two hours before going to bed, which is obviously a good practice and have a glass of warm milk just before going to bed.

And overall I am feeling more than fine. Exercising regularly and eating well certainly help me keep my diabetes under control.
