Stuffed Cabbage Casserole

by Ozlem
(Melbourne)

Because of my Turkish heritage, stuffed cabbage casserole has been a part of my life for a long long time.

Not many people like eating cabbage, but I am pretty certain this stuffed cabbage casserole recipe will help you get your family to eat them and actually love them.

Difficulty: Easy

Things You'll Need:

1 lb. lean ground beef

1 large onion, chopped

1 green pepper, chopped (optional)

3/4 cup plain, raw rice

1 small head of green cabbage, cut in quarters

1 can of tomato soup

1/2 can of water

1 can of tomato sauce (15 oz.)

Preparation:

1. Saute the ground beef and chopped onions until the meat is done and the onions are transparent. Set aside for later use.

2. Add the green pepper (if desired) and cook the mixture for approximately 3 minutes more. Salt and pepper the mixture to taste. Drain of excess liquid.

3. Mix the uncooked rice, can of tomato soup, 1/2 can of water and 1/2 can of tomato sauce. Set the leftover tomato aside for later use. Add the cooked ground beef and onion mixture to the sauce mixture. The rice will cook as dish does.

4. Remove the inner part of the cabbage and set aside for later use. Take the filling and place it in the center of the cabbage quarters.

5. Place the filled cabbage into a casserole dish. Add extra cabbage along the sides of the dish. Pour the remainder of the tomato sauce over the casserole and bake at 350 degrees for about 90 minutes, or until most of the liquid is cooked down.

*Here I'd like to tell you about my favorite diet program that uses a lot of the healthy lower GI foods: Isabel de los Rios' 'The Diet Solution Program'.

The Diet Solution Program favours a long term health orientated approach to fat loss, but not offering anyone a quick fix to their weight troubles. It has loads of valuable data and research to support its approach. I personally investigated the program thoroughly and my mum has been using it for a while now. I have to say she got some great results.

The nutrition plan is one of the healthiest we have seen, a strong core focus on vegetables, fruits, vitamin dense foods, lean proteins, select dairy produce and a clear approach to not expecting one diet to work for all body types. So give it a try and let me know how you’re doing.*
