5 Dangerous Foods

Okay the page title ‘5 Dangerous Foods’ may sound a little scary and you are not going to die suddenly if you eat these foods, but it will more like be a slow death 🙂

Just joking, but they will still do a great deal of harm to your body if you eat them frequently, day after day or week after week.

Are you afraid of premature aging? Beware!

Are you afraid of getting fat? Beware!

Are you afraid of becoming ill? Beware again!

Foods Made with High Fructose Corn Syrup:

Fructose sugar is actually high fructose corn syrup or fruit syrup- commonly used in many processed foods in supermarkets. It is commonly believed by nutritionists and health professionals that such foods cause overweight and obesity. It is best not to take risks with them and stick to whole fruits (get the fructose sugar from fruits themselves) and avoid any kind of foods that are rich in fructose. High Fructose Corn Syrup is no different to white or brown sugar in terms of chemical composition and both come with similar side effects. Have ‘not so sweet’ foods (get used to them by reducing the amount of sugar you consume slowly) and if you must have desserts for instance, stick to those made with milk and real fruits.

Cakes and Pastries:

Bakery products- biscuits, cakes, pastries made by food manufacturers that have become common household foods in recent years are genereally bad for you! Apart from sugar and processed white flour, they contain harmful trans fatty acids that can harm your health in different ways (think diabetes and heart diseases). Be careful that trans fats can come under different names too, such as partially hydrogenated fats. If you must eat pastries and biscuits, eat the home-made ones that contain less sugar, real fruits, wholemeal flour instead of white flour and no trans fats but butter and trans-fat free heart healthy margarines (still in small doses though!). Or avoid pastries and biscuits all together and stick to whole fruits and healthy fruit and nut spreads on whole grain bread. You may be surprised how good these can taste and how satisfying they may be.

Instant Foods:

These can also be called fake foods: Instant soups, noodles, instant mashed potatoes, instant anything that is full of junk processed ingredients such as the evil MSG- monosodium glutamate, flavor enhancers, preservatives and many other chemicals that you never heard the names of. They have to be avoided at all costs! I am not even going into the details of what they may do to your body and overall health. Think the word ‘evil’! Always go for natural foods, not the fake garbage.

Breakfast Cereals:

Breakfast cereals are often sold in large attractive boxes. They are also called ‘breakfast candies’ by some nutritionists. The only thing good about some of them are the fiber content. Most of them are actually processed breakfast desserts that are full of sugar and high in glycemic index values. Do not give these especially to your children for breakfast. You may have them as dessert though, but remember to only have them as ‘dessert’ if you’re craving sweets. Better eat oatmeal, porridge or even better try the Turkish breakfast.

Puffed Rice Cakes:

Here we’re talking about a glycemic index value between 80-90. With this kind of spike on your blood sugar levels, we can only talk about the kind of damage you can do to your pancreas over time and your overall health. You will only increase your risks of overweight, obesity, diabetes, insulin resistance and aging before your due time. Have wholemeal bread, unsalted nuts and seeds as snacks instead.

Remember to stick to the natural alternatives and you won’t go wrong!
