Fried foods are to be restricted totally if one plans to go for a weight loss by healthy eating. Many foods like icecream, fries, pastries, chocolates, sweets, candies etc. are also big hurdles in the way of weight loss.

These foods have very little or zero nutritional value and are totally laden with saturated fats and refined sugar.

They can be actually quite addictive like drugs. And sugar turns into fat easily when not used for energy.

White bread, like other processed foods, is also a big no-no for the body as it contains no nutritional value and is just like eating white sugar.

Remember healthy eating is possible only when one can handle his cravings and not give up.

It is advisable to switch to a healthy diet which has a low Glycemic Index, in order to stay healthy and to lose weight.

I have been at my ideal weight by eating healthy and exercising or keeping an active lifestyle for the last 7 years.

Crash diets result in weight loss but these are unhealthy in the long run. You must get essential nutrients in order to stay fit, even if you are reducing the calorie intake.

I reduced my weight by about 5 kgs by including more of proteins and salads in my diet and reducing the amount of simple carbohydrates e.g.sugar, rice and white bread.

I skipped breakfast but used to have an early lunch that consisted of just one roti- whole wheat bread, vegetables cooked using very little oil, green leafy vegetable soups made from spinach or fenugreek, green salads which included cucumber, tomato, onion, carrot or beetroot.

In the afternoon, I had a cup of tea with sugar-free additives and a few low-fat low-sugar biscuits. Dinner consisted of a roti, a little helping of rice, thick lentil soup and sprouts. Fried foods and snacks were strictly avoided.

Being a vegetarian also helped. In addition to this diet I used to take a multivitamin tablet daily to get the extra nutrition I may have needed. If I did feel hungry sometimes, I used to drink a glass of skimmed or low-fat milk.

Other ways to reduce the calorie contents of foods that I loved was to steam or shallow fry instead of deep frying.

I also went for a thirty minute walk everyday to supplement my efforts. That made me feel even better, it must have been to do with the serotonin hormones being released in my body when I exercised.
