Kundalini is the very powerful energy that is coiled like a snake at the base of your spine and with your regular yoga practices, you start awakening that energy slowly through your seven chakras- energy points.

Kundalini Yoga is often referred to as the yoga of awareness that focuses on raising the level of consciousness and intuitiveness by using physical postures- asanas, body locks-bhandas, exercises- kriyas, mantras, hand and finger gestures- mudras, meditation and breathing techniques. You work on the energy of your own body, so it is as physical as it is spiritual.

It is about raising the kundalini energy safely and slowly. Although it is similar to the well-known Hatha Yoga, Kundalini yoga is less demanding- easier to do and requires less time to complete a session.

Raising the energy safely, because since the arrival of eastern practices such as meditation, tai chi and yoga to the western countries, many people experienced a variety of psychological problems, possibly because of the instant raising of the very powerful kundalini energy. Please be aware that although kundalini yoga is for everyone, you need to be up for challenge as it can be very intense. It is not your regular yoga practice that you see at your local gym. It is demanding and rewarding at the same time. When the coiled serpent starts to wake up, you become more aware of everything and definitely more spiritual.

A typical Kundalini class starts with a chant ‘ Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo’ and a warm up and ends with meditation. And what you have in between is the usually very demanding kriyas- exercises combined with breathing techniques- pranayama. You mostly breathe through your nose during a typical Kundalini session this is probably what makes things a bit harder than it actually is.
