Low Fat Horse Gram Recipes

The two recipes below are very easy to prepare and require very little time but come with heaps of health benefits. Horse gram reduces the body weight gradually which I have experienced.

1. Horse gram pepper mix:
This is a very simple recipe. It can be had as a snack in the evening or with breakfast.

Ingredients:
Horse gram- 200gm
Salt- as needed
Pepper powder – 1tbsp
Mustard seeds- 1/2 tsp
Olive oil- 2tbsp

Wash and soak horse gram in water for six hours. Cook in an open pan with less water and needed salt sufficient enough to get the gram well cooked (excess water should not be drained, so keep sufficient water).

In a frying pan, add olive oil. After it is heated, add mustard seeds and then the cooked horse gram and pepper powder and mix them very well. Note: I have experienced good fat reduction results with horse gram dishes.

2. Horse gram chilli tamarind mix:

Ingredients:
Horse gram -250 gms
Orid dhall- 25 gms
Red chillies – 5 nos
Tamarind- 10gms
Curry leaves- 25 nos
Olive oil- 2tbsp
Salt- as needed

Add the olive oil in a frying pan and roast horse gram, orid dhall, red chillies and curry leaves. Dry roast tamarind separately for 2-3 minutes.

After the ingredients get cooler, grind all of them together with the required salt, coarsely.

Sauté the coarse powder in a dry pan for two minutes.

After cooling, this coarse powder can be stored in a clean, dry air tight container for upto three days. This is very tasty and healthy. It can be eaten with rice or south Indian dishes such as idli and dosa.
