Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods

Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods

Doctors have been asking their patients to stay away from genetically engineered foods because of the serious health problems they are believed to cause, for quite some time.

There is actually not a single scientific human clinical trial on GM foods and no evidence that they are safe. We are all now treated like lab animals in a massive science experiment. Many diseases take quite a long time to develop so it will be some time before we actually know these foods are actually safe.

Many real health problems were observed in rats in lab environment, such as GM- genetically modified soy fed rats having babies smaller than normal or most of the babies dying within a few weeks. Female rats had difficulty having babies later on, male rats’ testicles turned from pink to blue, changes were also found in DNA of embryos. Similar problems such as infertility, false pregnancies and earlier than normal births were observed in livestock as well.

Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods:

  • Within ten years of the first introduction of genetically engineered foods in 1996, the rates of people with multiple chronic diseases have doubled. Alzheimer’s, celiac disease, type 2 diabetes other new diseases, various gastrointestinal problems and autism are some of those with rates that are on the rise and GM foods are believed to be one of the main causes of them.
  • Children are believed to be at greatest risk with the genetically engineered foods business, with infant mortality rates increasing rapidly and life expectancy decreasing.
  • When your immune system experiences any foreign gene structure- and that is supposed to be a GM food, it attacks as if it is an enemy. GM food becomes a toxin and this causes a chronic inflammation and may turn into chronic disease later on.
  • Itching, flu symptoms and allergies are observed in workers that are exposed to even not so harmful natural spray for bacteria.
  • Genetically modified foods may carry genes that are resistant to antibiotics, so eating these foods at the same time as antibiotics will decrease the effect of antibiotics for whatever you are using it for.

Risks of Genetically Engineered Foods

  • Genetically engineered foods generally come with new genetic material added to them but genes can be removed on some occasions: caffeine gene from coffee beans to make decaf coffee.. and the result can be fungi and toxin loaded beans as caffeine protects beans from fungi.
  • Genetically engineering crop plants could harm other animals that eat the left overs in the fields, same works for the fish in the sea or lakes.
  • Producing crops that are tolerant to viruses is one of the most common GE methods. Although they are protected from infection by those viruses again, this procedure can create new or more harmful viruses that can infect other hosts too.
  • Last but not least, when the genes transfer from genetically engineered soy or corn into your intestinal bacteria’s DNA, they continue living in your bodies, continuing to produce more pesticides, perhaps for the rest of your lives and hence the increased number of gastrointestinal cases reported by doctors in US over the last decade. This is how serious things can get with GE foods!..
