The Realization That There Was More To Life Than Food

Instead of starting my diet off with the right foods, I took a more unique approach to getting healthy and losing weight. Where did I begin?

The one place, at least in my mind, where all diets should begin: my mind. I knew that before I could start eating better, I had to revamp my attitude and mindset, and that’s exactly what I did.

I spent days reciting little things to myself and training my mind, slowly coming to the realization that food could not control me, and that there were more important things in life than eating.

When I thought my mindset was up to snuff, I dug into the goods, but this time, the healthier more “user-friendly” ones! I started off the easy, surefire way, by simply replacing fatty snacks like ice cream and cookies with delicious fruits and vegetables.

From there, I started to cut down on portion size, how many meals I was eating a day, and what I was putting through my system. Water instead of soda, lean chicken instead of red meat, low sodium soups instead of Campbell’s Chunky.

It certainly took time to adapt to this new way of eating (and of life), and it wasn’t the easiest thing in the world to get adjusted to, but I knew I had crossed the finish line just a few weeks in.

That isn’t to say I had lost the weight I wanted and was now ready to pick up where I left off as an unhealthy slob, but that I had cemented my lifestyle with this new and improved outlook on life (and eating healthy), and that I knew there was no turning back.

Nowadays, you’ll only catch me drinking water (or the occasional glass of natural fruit juice), eating smaller, healthier meals, exercising frequently, and always having a smile on my face.
